Melbourne, Portland & Port Fairy - February 8-9

After spending one full day at sea we arrived in a very hot Melbourne. We went on a city tour that culminated with some time at the Royal Botanic Gardens. What a beautiful garden but we never have enough time to really enjoy the place. A multi-day and probably multi-season visit is really required to get a good feel of the gardens. Overnight we sailed to Portland where we boarded a bus that took us to Port Fairy. It was a quaint little place that somewhat reminded me of a town that might be found in the western US. It’s nestled on the sea and is a tourist destination. After a walk around Port Fairy, we went to a winery/distillery/brewery to sample the products. It’s a family run place. The owner is proud of his products. And if I do say so, they tasted great! Problem could be if you spend too much time at one of these places you might never come home.
